Conference completeDear Colleagues,
We are extremely happy to announce the foundation of the Society of European Robotic Gynaecological Surgery (SERGS). SERGS has been created for those who are open-minded to the future of robotic technology. It will be a Society for young and established professionals who are ready to embrace new ideas and technologies, as well as for those who are working in institutions where robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery is already performed.

Robotic-assisted laparoscopy is becoming a worldwide reality, enabling a minimally invasive approach to both simple and complex procedures across a number of surgical subspecialties. As such, robotic-assisted surgery is becoming increasingly prevalent in gynaecologic surgery.

In Europe, the existing familiarity with traditional laparoscopic surgery in gynaecology presents a challenge to the adoption of robotic-assisted laparoscopy. We feel the time has come to confront this challenge and have therefore decided to create a society specializing in the application of robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery in the field of gynaecology.

SERGS has set the following goals:
  • Document the clinical impact of these robotic-assisted laparoscopic techniques
  • Create a European consortium of medical professionals dedicated to the evolution and development of this new technology
  • Support research regarding additional advanced applications
  • Provide and develop standards for education and training in robotic-assisted surgery.
With all this in mind, we are proud to announce the first European Symposium in Robotic Gynaecological Surgery, to be held in Milan, Italy, 16-19 September 2009.

We hope to welcome you to Milan and share this important event with you!

With warmest regards.
Angelo Maggioni, Jan Persson and Gabriel Schaer
